JFTC Issued a Warning to IMABARI TAXI Business Cooperative

March 26, 2019
Japan Fair Trade Commission

The Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) today issued a warning to IMABARI TAXI Business Cooperative (the cooperative). In this case, the cooperative could be in violation of the provision of the Article 19 (Paragraph 12 [Trading on Restrictive Terms] of the
Designation of Unfair Trade Practices) of the Antimonopoly Act .

Regarding the common riding ticket business of the cooperative, JFTC found that:
1) on the grounds of the specific memorandum and contracts about the business above mentioned, the cooperative has been preventing the cooperative members of it from discounting the fare and covering passenger’s call charge for arranging a taxi in their
taxi business since April, 2015 at the latest; and
2) on the grounds of decision of the ordinary general meeting of the cooperative in May 11, 2017, the cooperative has been preventing the cooperative members of it from introducing credit card devices for passenger’s paying the fare in their taxi business
since June of that year.
