Japan Fair Trade Commission

The Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) today issued a warning to Marui Sangyo Kabushikikaisha(Marui Sangyo). In this case, Marui Sangyo could be in violation of the provision of the Article 19 (falling under the Item 5, Paragraph 9, Article 2 [Abuse of Superior Bargaining Position]) of the Antimonopoly Act (AMA).

JFTC found that,
1) Marui Sangyo had caused 171 suppliers to provide for itself money, which was spent for company trips of Marui Sangyo employees, and
2) Marui Sangyo had caused 19 suppliers to provide for itself money, which was spent for monetary rewards to specific Marui Sangyo employees
since May 2015 to February 2019 at the latest even though those payments by the suppliers to Marui Sangyo could not give them a benefit, such as sales promotion effect for the supplied goods.
