Japan Fair Trade Commission

Today, the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) issued cease and desist orders and surcharge payment orders to (1) the dealers who provided the specific Activated Carbon for local governments in East Japan area, and (2) the dealers who provided the specific Granular Activated Carbon for local governments in Kinki area.
These dealers violated the Article 3 of the Antimonopoly Act. The total amount of the surcharge is about 434.6 million yen.

The JFTC found that these dealers substantially restrained competition in the fields of the above specific Activated Carbon and specific Granular Activated Carbon by, in concert with one another, designating prospective suppliers and deciding that these carbons would be provided for local governments by way of Honcho Chemical Inc.
