The 8th Competition Policy Research Center Osaka Symposium
"Future Competition and Consumer Policy ~Toward 2030~"
13:00 - 16:00, Friday, February 27, 2026 * Japan Standard Time (JST)
Purpose of the event
The Antimonopoly Act ultimately aims to protect consumer interests, and competition policy is inherently intertwined with consumer policy. As digitalization accelerates and economic and social structures evolve, both competition and consumers are confronted with new challenges. In this environment, competition policy and consumer policy must operate in concert to safeguard consumer interests.
To respond to these developments, the CPRC is conducting research led by economic law scholars serving as CPRC Visiting Researchers, with the aim of establishing a framework for the future direction of competition law, consumer law, and personal information protection law toward 2030.
This symposium will focus on three of the themes covered by this research: merger review, regulation of the abuse of superior bargaining position, and the consumer law.
Each session starts with a presentation, followed by a discussion between the presenter and a discussant such as an economist or a practitioner. The second half of the symposium has a Q&A session, in which all speakers and discussants join to answer questions from the floor and online, which deepens the discussion.
