The 8th Competition Policy Research Center Osaka Symposium
"Future Competition and Consumer Policy ~Toward 2030~"
13:00 - 16:00, Friday, February 27, 2026 * Japan Standard Time (JST)
Purpose of the event
With the advancement of digitalization and changes in the working environment, the role expected for the competition policy is changing significantly.
Furthermore, it has a close relation with the consumer policy, as the ultimate purpose of the antitrust law is to protect the interests of consumers.
Under such circumstances, the CPRC is currently conducting a research, led by economic law scholars who are also visiting researchers of the CPRC, with the aim of formulating a framework for how the antitrust law, the consumer law, and the personal information protection law should be in place in the coming year of 2030.
This symposium will focus on three of the themes covered by this research: merger review, regulation of the abuse of superior bargaining position, and the consumer law.
Each session starts with a presentation, followed by a discussion between the presenter and a discussant such as an economist or a practitioner. The second half of the symposium has a Q&A session, in which all speakers and discussants join to answer questions from the floor and online, which deepens the discussion.
