[Purpose of the symposium]

The role of competition policy has become more and more important internationally as globalization of competition develops. Under the circumstances, criminal penalty in the U.S. has been raised substantially by enforcement of Antitrust Criminal Penalty Enhancement and Reform Act. So,we are going to have the keynote speech on tasks of competition policy and policy from now on from the perspective of the U.S. by a top-official of US competition policy authorities. Moreover,we would like to discuss what kind of design of competition policy will be needed in the future under the development of global competition and seek the standpoint of competition policy from now on.
