 The Competition Policy Research Center / Japan Fair Trade Commission (CPRC/JFTC) will hold the international symposium in close collaboration with the 21st Century COE/RES Program Hitotsubashi University, Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Inc.(NIKKEI) and Fair Trade Institute on March 7.
 Competition policy may support smooth function of free market economies and play an important role in promoting economic growth. How competition policy can play its role, however, depends on various factors such as the stage of economic development and safeguard against market failures in each country. On the other hand, in order for each market economy to function mutually and smoothly in a coordinated manner, the interface mechanism should be designed and implemented among countries, which ensures competition policies in all countries to work harmoniously.
 The theme of CPRC International symposium of this year is "the role of competition policy in the promotion of economic growth." The purpose of the symposium is to discuss the role of competition policy in promoting economic growth from academic perspective, mentioning to the historical background of competition policies and free market economies and the development of contemporary competition policies.
