Business Alliances: How do we achieve innovation for social change?

3rd Competition Policy Research Center Osaka Symposium

November 6, 2020
Competition Policy Research Center

Japan has been facing the significant changes in the social and economic environment such as the progress of the digital economy and IoT, the decrease of population and labor, and the market shrinkage. In these circumstances, companies are going to use business alliances to create new innovations. On the other hand, it is important to promote these innovations by responding accurately to the complicated and sophisticated business alliances under the Antimonopoly Act and competition policy, since business alliances may have an anti-competitive effect.
This symposium will focus on R&D alliances and cross-industry data-collaboration business alliances which have been becoming active more and more in recent years, and will give lectures and have panel discussions by experts on the mechanisms of the impact on innovations and evaluation methods under the Antimonopoly Act.
