Competition Policy Research Center
In recent years, it has been pointed out that giant digital platform operators are entering into business fields other than their core business and providing various services, thereby forming and expanding so-called "ecosystems”, the networks that complement their core business and generate further synergies, and strengthening their market position.
For firms that participate in the ecosystems and provide services, digital platform operators are not only providers of platform services, but can also be competitors that provide competing services while having strong power to set rules regarding the ecosystems and thus exclude them from the ecosystems.
In order to deepen the understandings of ecosystems with such characteristics by giant digital platform operators, at this symposium experts give presentations and have panel discussions on the ecosystems, focusing on their business models and influence to competition (positive and negative aspects) as well as policy issues/challenges.
