What kinds of activities does it conduct?
The Fair Trade Commission promptly investigates violations and takes strict measures against them. If there is a sign that a violation has been committed by a company, the Fair Trade Commission conducts investigations. If it finds a violation, it issues the company with an order to stop the violation (cease and desist order) and an order to pay the national treasury an amount equivalent to the unreasonable profits obtained through the violation (surcharge payment order).
The above illustration shows the flow of processing a violation incident. For example, when information about a potential violation is provided by a citizen, the Fair Trade Commission attempts to find the facts and conducts on-site investigations and hearings. If, as a result of these, a violation is found, the Fair Trade Commission creates a preliminary notice of a cease and desist order and surcharge payment order. It also provides the violating company with the opportunity to state its opinion. Finally, the Fair Trade Commission issues a cease and desist order and surcharge payment order.
