Statement by the Secretary General at a regular press conference on Wednesday, April 19, 2023

April 19, 2023
Japan Fair Trade Commission

Today, I would like to report on the appointment of a member of the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC).

Mr. Kazushi Yamamoto retired from a member of the Commission on Wednesday, April 12, and Mr. Fumio Sensui, a former professor of the Graduate School of Law at Kobe University, was appointed as a member of the Commission on Thursday, April 13.
As an economic law scholar with a focus on antitrust law for many years, Commissioner Sensui has conducted research on antitrust laws and regulations as well as competition policy, and has a high level of expertise in the areas of competition policy and digital markets, which are priority issues for JFTC, as evidenced by his appointment as a member of the Digital Market Competition Council. In relation to the JFTC, Mr. Sensui has also been a member of the Anti-Monopoly Council of the JFTC since 2013.
We believe that Mr. Sensui will make a significant contribution to the Commission's strict enforcement of the Anti-Monopoly Law and further promotion of its competition policy by drawing on his expertise in economic law.
