Japan Fair Trade Commission

(Meetings with experts, lectures in local cities, and holding of “JFTC Day")

Today, I would like to talk about the forthcoming meetings with experts.
Meeting with experts have been held in major cities across Japan since 1972. This year, the meetings will be held in eight cities from November 13 to December 6.
At each meeting, one of the Commissioners or Secretary General of the JFTC will exchange opinions with experts such as local business organizations, consumer groups, academics, and press. That aims to provide opportunities for them to deepen their understanding of competition policy, and for the JFTC to learn actual conditions of each region as well as their opinions and proposals to us. We will consider what we learn to update our activities in the future.
In conjunction with the meetings, we will hold lectures for local businesses and the general public to introduce significance of competition in markets, rules such as the Antimonopoly Act, recent initiatives to ensure environment for fair trading, and fact-finding surveys and proposals conducted.
Furthermore, in four of the eight cities (Kushiro City in Hokkaido, Kobe City, Shimonoseki City in Yamaguchi Prefecture and Matsuyama City), we will hold “JFTC Day” to conduct PR activities about the Antimonopoly Act and the Subcontract Act, and address consultations from businesses and consumers in conjunction with the meetings too.
