Overview of the JFTC’s Social Media Activities

The Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) is actively engaged in sharing information with the public to raise awareness of its announcements and the content of the Antimonopoly Act and other relevant laws. Today, I would like to introduce our efforts to communicate through social media platforms such as YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook.

As part of its efforts to promote broader understanding of the Antimonopoly Act, the Subcontract Act, and other related laws, the JFTC has launched an official YouTube channel to share information. The JFTC’s YouTube channel has long featured videos explaining the regulations and investigation procedures under the Antimonopoly Act. In recent years, the channel has expanded its content to include videos on the Guidelines on Price Negotiation for Appropriate Pass-thorough of Labor Cost, formulated in 2023, and the Act on Improvement of Transactions between Freelancers and Undertakings (Freelance Act), which came into effect in 2024. In addition to our long-running video series that provides an in-depth overview of relevant laws, we have recently begun offering more accessible content, including short videos and quiz-style formats that highlight key regulatory points in an easy-to-understand manner.

Through its official accounts on X and Facebook, the JFTC shares information with the aim of making the JFTC more approachable and helping the public become more familiar with the Antimonopoly Act, related laws, and competition policy. Although communication through these platforms is limited to users who have registered accounts on each service, social media has become one of the most effective tools for public outreach, enabling the direct delivery of information to individuals via their personal devices.

While official announcements on the JFTC’s website tend to be formal in tone, our posts on X and Facebook aim to be more accessible and engaging. We use illustrations of the JFTC’s mascot character “Dokkín” and simplify technical terms to ensure that the content is easier to understand for both businesses and consumers. For example, when announcing a violation case, we post a summary titled “Dokkín’s Quick Guide to the Case”, which highlights the key points and significance of the case at a glance. These posts have been well received by our followers, with some commenting that the summaries make it easier to grasp the main points of the case.

One of the most widely viewed posts last fiscal year was on X, announcing the JFTC’s recommendation against COVER Corporation—a well-known operator of the major VTuber management agency hololive production for a violation of the Subcontract Act. This post received the highest number of impressions among all of our content during the year. The post received approximately 8.7 million impressions, marking the highest number since the JFTC launched its X account in June 2014.

Overall, posts related to violation cases involving major companies familiar to the public tend to receive a higher number of impressions. In addition, posts about other topics that attract strong public interest—such as the Report Regarding Generative AI published in June 2025 and the Market Study on Ensuring Fair Transactions to Support Creators released in December 2024 —have also garnered many impressions, reflecting the high level of public interest in these topics.

In addition to publishing transcripts of this regular press conferences on the JFTC’s official website, we also share related posts on X. Rather than relying solely on visitors to our website, we will continue to actively utilize social media to provide the public with accessible information about competition law and the JFTC’s activities. Through these efforts, we aim to make the JFTC feel more familiar and approachable to both businesses and consumers, and to help a greater number of people deepen their understanding of the Antimonopoly Act and the work we do.
