JFTC Holds Training Course for Philippines Competition-Related Agencies on the Antimonopoly Act and Competition Policy

The Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) will hold a training course for Philippines competition-related agencies on the Antimonopoly Act and competition policy from April 1 through 12, 2013 in Tokyo, Osaka and Kobe, in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

In Philippines, several bills to introduce comprehensive competition law have been under deliberation in the Congress. It is said that enhancement of the abilities of officials in competition-related agencies such as the Department of Justice is a key issue.

Under such circumstances, the training course takes place to provide officials in Philippines competition-related agencies with opportunities to obtain the knowledge on the Antimonopoly Act and competition policies, with the purpose of supporting the enhancement of competition legislations and law enforcement in Philippines.

This training course is a part of a three-year technical cooperation project which the JFTC, in cooperation with JICA, has implemented since 2008 in response to the request from the Government of the Philippines.

  2. Venue : JFTC offices(Tokyo and Osaka) and JICA Kansai International Center (Kobe)
  3. Participants : 17 senior officials from the Department of Justice, etc.
  4. Organizers : JFTC and JICA
  5. Content : Lectures by academians on the Antimonopoly Act and competition policies; lectures by the JFTC officials on investigation procedures, merger review and others
