Closing the Investigation on the Suspected Violation of the Antimonopoly Act by UNIQUEST INC.

December 2, 2021

Japan Fair Trade Commission

The Japan Fair Trade Commission (the “JFTC”) has investigated UNIQUEST INC. (UNIQUEST) in accordance with the provision of the Antimonopoly Act since June 2021.

UNIQUEST is the online funeral service provider which operates its website where it receives funeral requests from consumers; these requests are passed on to the funeral operators, under the contracts with UNIQUEST, which actually conduct funerals.

UNIQUEST had been suspected to restrict those funeral operators to trade with other online funeral service providers.

During JFTC’s investigation, UNIQUEST proposed to take voluntary measures. As a result of JFTC’s review on this proposal, the JFTC recognized that these measures would eliminate the abovementioned suspicion and decided to close the investigation on this case.
