On September 10, 2024, Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) Commissioner Reiko Aoki, the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Commissioner Alvaro Bedoya met today in Washington D.C., to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the signing of an agreement between Japan and the United States concerning cooperation on anticompetitive activities. Under the 1999 competition cooperation agreement, the JFTC, the Justice Department, and the FTC, committed to notify each other of enforcement activities that may affect the other’s important interests and render assistance in enforcement activities where possible in order to contribute to the effective enforcement of the competition laws of each country.
