Event Title: The 13th East Asia Conference on Competition Law and Policy: The Impact of Advances in Technology on Competition Law and Policy |
Date/Time: 29 September 2021, online 11:00-14:00 Japan Standard Time (JST) |
Outline: Competition laws and policies are playing an increasingly important role in the development of East Asian economies. While several countries are equipped with rich competition law and policy experience, others in the region are exploring ways to effectively adopt and leverage these practices. Advancements in data sciences are presenting new competition law enforcement opportunities and challenges in East Asia’s rapidly expanding digital economy. Governments must also strike a balance between supporting COVID-19-hampered economic development and ensuring market competitiveness amid pandemic-driven economic collaboration and business consolidation within the region. Cohosted by the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore, the Japan Fair Trade Commission, and Asian Development Bank Institute, the 13th East Asia Conference on Competition Law and Policy will examine measures that could help address digital disruption and COVID-19 recovery. Two panel discussions will focus on the implications of advancement in data sciences for competition policy enforcement and competition law enforcement in digital markets. |
