The 2025 China-Japan-ROK Regular Meeting on Anti-Monopoly

Today, I would like to talk about the organization and participation in the 2025 China-Japan-ROK Regular Meeting on Anti-Monopoly.

The trilateral regular meeting was held over two days on Thursday and Friday, March 20 and 21, in Hangzhou, a city in Zhejiang Province, China. From the JFTC, several staff members from the General Secretariat participated in the meeting.

This year’s meeting was hosted by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), China’s competition authority. In addition to the JFTC, the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) also participated.

While the JFTC has previously held bilateral meetings with both SAMR and the KFTC, this was the first time that all three authorities convened a face-to-face, director-general-level meeting. The main topics discussed included: (1) Relationship between Competition Policy and other Policies, (2) Competition Advocacy, (3) Regulation of Monopoly Behavior in Key and Frontier Fields and Organizational Structure, and (4) Review of Undertakings Concentrations. It was reported that active discussions took place among the leaders and relevant officials from each authority on these topics.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants expressed a strong desire to continue holding this trilateral meeting on a regular basis. It was agreed that the three authorities would continue discussions on how future meetings should be organized. The JFTC believes that this meeting contributes to strengthening cooperative relationships among the competition authorities of Japan, China, and Korea, as well as to enhancing understanding of competition policy in the East Asian region. We are committed to continuing our active involvement in these efforts going forward.
