The Study Group on Guidelines for Business Initiatives toward Green Society

October 12, 2022
Japan Fair Trade Commission

The Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) will hold the ‘Study Group on Guidelines for Business Initiatives toward Green Society,’ which is composed of relevant experts, in order to consider the guidelines.

1.   Purpose:
     (1) With the aim to address climate change, in October 2020, Japan declared it aims to achieve ‘Carbon neutrality by 2050.’ Then, in April 2021, it also set a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emission. For achieving those goals, it is needed to build the society which combines reduction of environmental impact and economic growth, that is, ‘Green Society.’

It is expected that business initiatives toward Green Society will become active and concrete in the near future. The JFTC decides to clarify the application of the Antimonopoly Act to those initiatives in order to prevent anticompetitive conduct which deters realization of Green Society, and to raise transparency and predictability of the application and enforcement of the Act for businesses working toward Green Society.

      (2) Against the above background, the JFTC will hold the ‘Study Group on Guidelines for Business Initiatives toward Green Society,’ hosted by the Director General of the Economic Affairs Bureau of the JFTC, in order to consider the guidelines based on expertise of invited experts and the current state of Japan.

2. Schedule:
  The 1st Meeting: October 20, 2022
  The 2nd Meeting: November 21, 2022
  The 3rd Meeting: December 5, 2022
