Japan Fair Trade Commission Signs Memorandum on Cooperation with the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority

 The Japan Fair Trade Commission (hereinafter, “JFTC”), on 30 September 2025, in Ottawa, Canada, signed a Memorandum on Cooperation (hereinafter, “MoC”) with the Competition and Markets Authority (hereinafter, “CMA”), which is the competition authority of the United Kingdom. The signers and outline of this MoC are as follows:

1. Signers

JFTC: Mr. Eiji Chatani, Chair, Chair
 CMA: Mr. Chris Prevett, General Counsel


2. Outline

(1) Purpose

 The purpose of this MoC is to promote cooperation, coordination, and the communication of information between the Participants in relation to their competition law enforcement activities.

(2) Notifications

 Each participant will notify the other Participant of any enforcement activities that the notifying Participant considers may affect important interests of the other Participant.

(3) Coordination of Enforcement Activities

 The participants may maintain close liaison, taking into account the effect on each other, and may cooperate in conducting enforcement activities.

(4) Communication of Information

 The participants may, where permitted by their national laws, share and discuss views, and communicate information for the purposes of cooperation and coordination.
