JFTC and EC Held the 32nd Bilateral Meeting in Tokyo

March 15/2016

Tokyo, Japan

The 32nd bilateral meeting on competition policy took place between the JFTC and the European Commission (EC) in Tokyo. Two agencies exchanged their views over a broad range of competition-related matters including international cooperation between competition authorities, public support for revitalization, liner shipping and competition in electricity markets. The meeting was attended by JFTC Chairman Kazuyuki Sugimoto, EC Commissioner Margrethe Vestager and other officials from the both agencies.

In addition, at this meeting, confirming that cooperation between them in the competition policy area should be further strengthened, they have decided to commence preparatory works for negotiation on an amendment of “the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the European Community concerning Cooperation on Anticompetitive Activities” (concluded in 2003) in order to allow their competition authorities to facilitate the exchange of information obtained during the course of an investigation.
