On 5 February, the 20th East Asia Top Level Officials' Meeting on Competition Policy (EATOP) was held, co-hosted by the JFTC, the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Development Bank Institute, with delegates from 14 authorities in attendance.
Chair Chatani delivered opening remarks.
Chair Chatani also served as moderator in the session titled “EATOP Roundtable 2026 – Discussion on the Future Direction of EATOP –”. He proposed the establishment of a liaison group through which staff of EATOP participating authorities can communicate to share information on technical assistance needs and recent initiatives, and the proposal was unanimously supported by all authorities present at the meeting.
Commissioner Aoki served as a panelist in the session titled “The Use of Economic Analysis in Competition Policy in East Asia”.
On 6 February, the 17th East Asia Conference on Competition Law and Policy (EAC) was held, co-hosted by the three co-hosts of EATOP and the Academic Society for Competition Law Asian Chapter.
Chair Chatani delivered an opening address, and Commissioner Aoki served as a commentator in the session titled “Keynote Speech: Building Together, Adapting Smart：Digital Competition Policy for Asia's Diverse Economies”.
